some make it (a little too) hot!

October 30, 2014

Boy Wonder is keen to extend his culinary repertoire (which given that it currently consists mostly of toast-based creations is no bad thing) and announced that today he would make samosas. Super Girl and I were off into Manchester to do a spot of shopping (and consuming of cake) and I was wary of him undertaking the whole process without me, but we decided that he would consult the available recipes and make the filling and then I would be on hand for the whole folding/frying thing.

Unfortunately, although Boy Wonder has a brain the size of a planet, his common sense is a little less apparent. The recipe called for curry powder, however he was unable to spot any (I tend to use paste) and phoning to consult would have been far too mundane – he just used chilli powder instead. Luckily I was alerted to something unusual – not the usual spicy smell, and a quick taste test revealed the substitution before samosa construction was in full swing.

We’re going to take another crack at them again tomorrow, and dilute the heat with a second batch of vegetables, I’ll let you know how it goes!

How did I miss this update…brilliant! I am sat chuckling reading this while the rest of the house sleeps. I coincidently got up early to clean up after the enthusiastic advances of both sons in the kitchen last night. Nicely saved there Optimistic Organiser, well done!

They were fine, after judicious dilution with more veg, although still a little on the hot side for the less adventurous members of the family.
Took another go at them yesterday, and all good, although I suggested baking this time, as a health measure, Boy Wonder prefers fried – of course he does!
