the call of shame

March 7, 2014

Round about this time of year I usually run a special coffee morning at our Church to highlight Fair Trade products. We run a baking competition into which people enter their home bakes that have to include at least one fairly traded ingredient, and then all the people who come along to the coffee morning get to judge and decide who wins. It’s a good event, great fun, and we always enjoy it, despite all the hard work but it’s just not happening.

I boldly announced that it would, it’s gone in the church newsletter and everything, but I have had a serious case of my get-up-and-go going missing in inaction, and the whole thing was looking like a non-event so I thought I may as well make that official. There weren’t any entry forms set out this year (see previous sentence) and no-one has actually let me know that they were planning to bake something for it, so I now need to try and second guess who might have been planning to contribute and get in touch to let them know. It’s hard to know how much of this self abasement is necessary and how much is just bonus humiliation.

Don’t beat yourself up – sometimes we just have to back off things we love. Most folks will understand. And if anyone bakes, then they will have a treat to share with friends.

Thanks, was just feeling sorry for myself! But as you say there is cake, so it’s not all bad 🙂

It was one of my fave events at Church but know it takes so much planning. You really need an army of volunteers to step up and help organize it next year…perhaps the Scouts???

Don’t worry, it will happen again, just need to sort out another date.
