a little light crafting!

January 13, 2014

Willow is taped together to make a structure.

Super Girl and I went over to the Tunnel End visitor centre in Marsden on Saturday for a workshop to make willow lanterns.

Can you see what it is yet?

For those of you who don’t know, this is a fairly traditional technique (but using masking tape and wet & dry tissue) that can be adapted to make all sorts of forms. The willow withies are incredibly strong and flexible, and can be bent into all sorts of shapes – we’re already thinking of going back next week, and trying out a bit more, but since we only had 2 hours we decided to work together to make one lantern. This essentially meant that Super Girl was in charge and I provided hands and labour (no change there then!)
