You wait all year for a birthday cake . . .

In this case, Mr. Pict whose birthday was yesterday. I dutifully made the cake that you see above (Nigella’s Butterscotch Layer Cake, I think I overcooked the caramel slightly but it’s still pretty good), but he came home from school with two more – a very nice chocolate cake with the Silverstone Circuit marked out on the top, and little stand-up characters from Tooned. The other, relating to his other great interest, football, was modelled as a Charlton Athletic (yes, I know, improbable isn’t it?) shirt, with his name and age on it. But it’s huge! So we are now exceedingly rich in cake, which is no bad thing really, although it’s going to do nothing for our collective waistlines!

Sorry I missed it while I was away in parts foreign. Wish Mr Pict many happy ones from us all. Did we miss a significant one or is it common knowledge, the Pict family fondness for cake?

Our fondness for cake is, of course, world renowned, but this was actually a big birthday. And to give you an idea how much cake there was, we’re still eating it!
