Conkering Heroes

October 14, 2012

The horse chestnut tree down by the stepping stones.

Autumn doesn’t always live up to my expectations (or at least it often only seems to live up to the bad ones), but this weekend we have had two beautiful, classically autumnal days. Both have started off misty, but then cleared to blue skies, and sun shining on golden leaves. This afternoon we strolled over to the garden centre to enjoy the weather and take a look at the Christmas decorations (I’m sorry, it’s not my fault!) and look for a few conkers on the way. Sadly not many to be seen, but Super Girl found a few, and Boy Wonder reminisced fondly about the conker party we went to a few years ago when he won the bottle of champagne with his champion conker. Luckily he was too young, so we had to drink it for him, but even more luckily he thought that being allowed to open it was prize enough!

The wonderful, glossy treasure inside.

What a beauty. And yes, it was a really pleasant day – store it in the memory bank 🙂

Slightly less strenuous than being out on the tops the day before!
