no birds, no bees . . .

November 20, 2011

no flowers, no trees . . . November.

This, from my childhood, is summing it all up for me at the moment. That’s not entirely fair of me, as it was actually a bright, pleasant day yesterday, but it’s all feeling a bit grim. November is miserable, and there’s just no getting away from it. Although Christmas is always a pretty small-scale affair for us, I do look forward to it, and every year it forms an artificial deadline for me to have _______* (*insert any one of the hundreds of things I would like to get done here). November is when the pressure mounts to actually get my act together and be the person who does those things. Before December comes around and it’s time to just cut my losses, mull some wine and set a new deadline to miss.
