a quietly good day

January 22, 2011

Nothing particularly remarkable at all, but these days we always seem to be so busy, so a quiet day at home together is noteworthy. The weather was dry (the best that could be said for it, but at least it was that) and the husband took Boy Wonder and Super Girl over to the mountain bike track on Crompton Moor this morning.

We’d been thinking of going to see the Tutankhamun exhibition in the afternoon – and I was delegated to buy the tickets but unfortunately they had run out between us having the vague idea yesterday and me being told it was my job to get them today – so that will have to wait for another time. So what did we do? Well, Super Girl and I made gingerbread biscuits, Boy Wonder and I made popcorn, and we had a great afternoon watching The Blues Brothers. Ok, the language is atrocious, but that’s more than made up for by the music and the car chases. We played around with the sewing machine and got a bit more knitting done too. Who could ask for more?

🙂 Days like this are really good, especially as more often than not they are unplanned. I’ve never seen “The Blues Brothers”, but I have just seen your (old) post about wanting to be CJ from The West Wing – we LOVED that show. It was always a challenge to try to remember some of the pithy dialogue to use on other people through the week! (trouble is, the people we used it on didn’t come back with the same sort of replies that President Bartlett, Josh etc would retort, so they kind of lost their impace somewhat!).

** sorry – should read “impact” (don’t know what an “impace” is!!)

I know what you mean about the unplanned bit. We are so busy during the week, and at the weekends Sundays are pretty much wiped out by some sort of combination of church, rugby and netball, so there’s quite some pressure on Saturdays. We sort of feel we ought to do stuff, to make the most of the day, but it can be really nice not to have particular things lined up. We had a great week last January when the snow came down and lots of regular activities came to a stop – it all felt like bonus time 8o)
