Excuses, excuses

January 12, 2009

I do have a bit of an excuse for all the children’s books on my current reading list.  Apart from the fact, that I quite enjoy a lot of it anyway, I do still read in the evenings with my children.  So, Boy Wonder (13) and I are currently on Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, Super Girl (10) and I are (re)discovering the joys of the Chalet School – she loved Malory Towers and I loved these, and at bedtime we all settle down for the next chapter about Chrestomanci in Charmed Life.

I realise that most people have stopped the bedtime reading by now, but I’m so glad that we haven’t.  It’s a chance to all get together, and share something we really enjoy; to introduce my children to books that they might not other want to have a go at; and to let them access books that might currently be a little beyond them in terms of actual reading.  A couple of years ago son and I embarked upon the Lord of the Rings, and it did take us the whole year to get through, but it was great when we did.

I’d welcome any comments about what you think.  Are you still reading to your children too?
